John ‘Jack’ D. Farschman has been the Erie County Engineer from 1997 to the present. Re-elected as Erie County Engineer on November 3, 2020. Term begins January 4, 2021.

COUNTY ENGINEER DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Maintaining county roads, bridges and public drainage systems in the unincorporated parts of Erie County, Ohio.
- Maintain approximately 139.979 miles of county roads and associated roadway drainage systems within nine townships, 138 bridges, approximately 655 culverts, and additionally including snow and ice removal.
- Maintain approximately 50 miles of petitioned County open ditches and 47.2 miles of drainage pipe (closed ditches) and approximately 1,320 feet of dike.
- Providing engineering services for the nine (9) townships of Erie County.
- Providing leadership and direction to an office staff, and equipment maintenance force and our field forces.
- Reviewing subdivision plans, preparing construction plans (roadway, bridges and culverts), and performing inspections to ensure compliance with applicable State, County and Federal regulations and specifications.
- Designing and constructing and/or contracting roadway and drainage structures and providing similar engineering services for each of the townships.
- Pursuing and obtaining State and Federal funding for County highway and bridge projects to maximize and stretch the use of your tax dollars.
- Staffing and administering operations of the County Tax Mapping Office.
