Leslie Murray and Marcus Harris
announce they are running for
Erie County Commission in 2024
Murray and Harris are running for County Commission to provide leadership, vision and collaboration at the County level. It is time for the County to take their seat at the table. With strong leadership and a dedication to drive our economy forward and invest in our families, our community can meet the challenges of today and be prepared for the future. Murray and Harris will utilize the resources of the County to invest in our people, in our businesses and our families. Murray and Harris will bring a broad array of experiences, a strong background in collaborating with partners and a vision of fresh ideas that will protect our lake and our lands, support our children and our families and invest in our businesses and innovators. We believe in moving Erie County forward together.
Leslie Murray and Marcus Harris have filed candidate petitions to run for Erie County Commission in 2024. Murray is running for the commission seat commencing Jan 2nd, 2025 and Harris for the commission seat commencing Jan 3, 2025. Murray and Harris will be on the ballot in the Ohio Democratic Primary on March 19. They are endorsed by the Erie County Democratic Party.

Leslie and Marcus have a long history of community service, and public service,” Amy Grubbe, Chair of Erie County Democratic Party said. “Both will ensure Erie County works for economic development, opportunities for our youth and better relationships between cities, townships, villages and other stakeholders within our region. Leslie and Marcus are both proven leaders and will continue to be excellent community and public servants as they take their skills and dedication to the Erie County Commission.”
Meet Marcus Harris
Marcus Harris is a proud Sandusky, Ohio native. After graduating for Sandusky High School in ‘97, he attended the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor from ’97-’00. Undeterred, he completed his a Bachelor’s degree (‘09) and a Master of Public Administration (’24) from Bowling Green State University.
With a diverse professional background, Marcus spent 10 years in the private sector leadership with Starbucks Coffee Company, and 4 years in leadership with the nonprofit Youth Opportunities Unlimited. He currently serves as the Diversity & Economic Opportunity Manager for the City of Sandusky and sits on several nonprofit boards.
Joining the City of Sandusky in September 2021, Marcus has spearheaded the oversight of the City’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion employee committee. In this capacity, he leads the development and execution of a comprehensive DEI strategic plan, emphasizing the recruitment of a diverse workforce for various City positions.
Marcus is committed to leveraging his diverse professional background and leadership acumen to further enhance Erie County’s growth and prosperity.
Community
Beyond his municipal role, Marcus actively contributes to the community by serving on the following boards:
- Sandusky State Theatre
- Second Harvest of North Central Ohio
- Vice President of the United Way of Erie County
Family
- Marcus resides in Perkins Township with his wife, Katrina Harris, and their son, Dallas Harris.
