The Democratic National Convention will take place August 19-22, 2024. It is expected to draw 5,000 to 7,000 delegates and alternates and attract up to 50,000 visitors to Chicago. The United Center will be site of evening events — the main site of the 1996 Democratic convention in Chicago and the largest arena in North America; daytime business will be conducted at the McCormick Place Convention Center, the location of the 2012 NATO Summit.

Volunteers now have petitions! Despite what the GOP ad says – The proposed amendment language has nothing to do with gender reassignment surgery. Every registered Ohioan should have the right to vote yes or no on this issue by placing it on the November 2023 General Election ballot. Every individual has a right to make and carry out one’s own reproductive decisions, including but not limited to decisions on: contraception; fertility treatment; continuing one’s own pregnancy; miscarriage care; and abortion. There are now about 125,000 fewer registered voters in the state – 884 less voters in Erie County alone – after Secretary of State Frank LaRose removed names from the active voter rolls. If an Ohioan has moved or hasn’t participated in elections in the past six years, the state may have removed the person’s name from the  voter file; thus, the action affects the individual’s ability to vote. If purged, the person must re-register to vote. Don’t miss the deadline to register to vote!

Columbus, OH – The Cleveland.com editorial board pulled no punches, saying Joe Deters was a ‘mistaken choice’ for the Ohio Supreme Court. The editorial board pointed out that Deters has ‘zero judicial experience,’ that Deters enjoys a close, personal relationship with Governor Mike DeWine – and his family – who appointed him and that there are ‘many conflicts and questions about Deters’ qualifications and past service.’

Olsen has worked in the Erie County Auditor’s Office for nearly 26 years and previously for 10 years in the Erie County Engineer’s Office.

On Friday, January 27, 2023, 128 of the 222 House Republicans – including 25 Republican lawmakers on the House Committee on Education and the Workforce – signed onto an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to block student-debt relief. It came alongside a separate brief filed by 43 GOP senators opposing the relief. They all argued that POTUS Biden doesn’t have the authority to cancel student debt using the HEROES Act of 2003.

DeWine signed HB458 into law triggering a major overhaul of state election laws that will require voters to present a photo ID at the polls. Under the new law, voters must present a photo ID when they cast their ballot in person, although the ID doesn’t need to have their current address on it. Qualifying IDs include an Ohio driver’s license, state ID, U.S. passport, passport card, military ID or interim identification issued by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Voters could previously use alternative forms of identification at the polls, such as utility bills or bank statements that had their new address on it.
